West Aceh district conducive to elections

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- West Aceh district police spokesman Adjunct Senior Commissioner Faisal Rivai has stated that the district in Aceh province is conducive to the legislative elections on April 9.

"Although criminal acts are escalating in some districts, West Aceh district is in general conducive to the elections. But we will remain vigilant, anyway, ahead of the elections," Faisal clarified in Meulaboh on Wednesday.

To ensure security during the elections, he assured that 112 Mobile Brigade police personnel will be deployed not only in West Aceh, but also in several neighboring districts and towns.

Faisal noted that the police personnel will make every effort to handle any disturbance of security and order such as mass riot and organized crime with firearms.

According to him, the Mobile Brigade policed personnel has specific capabilities to ensure social security in West Aceh and other areas along west and south of Aceh province during the elections.

"Political issues are very sensitive and is a main factor in triggering horizontal conflicts in Aceh, but with the presence of the police personnel, we hope that the elections will run peacefully without disturbances," he noted.
