REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Taiwan is to establish a representative office in Surabaya city, East Java province, to help Indonesian workers to apply for a work visa to Taiwan.
"About 60 percent of Indonesian workers working in Taiwan are from the East Java province. The establishment of Taiwan's representative office in Surabaya city is expected to help workers to apply for a work visa to Taiwan," the newly appointed Chief of Taiwan's Economic and Trade Office (TETO), Liang-Jen Chang, said during his visit to Antara on Tuesday.
However, he could not yet give the date on which the representative office will be opened as it is still awaiting authorization from Indonesia's government.
Currently, there are 210,000 Indonesian workers working in Taiwan, or almost double of the original Taiwanese workforce. The Indonesian workers are primarily working in factories, households and fishing ships.
