REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BRUSSEL -- NATO's involvement in the crisis settlement in Ukraine will only complicate the situation, Alexander Grushko, Russias Permanent Representative at NATO, said on Wednesday after an ambassadorial meeting of the Russia-NATO Council.

"The subject of Ukraine was raised by Russia at the Russia-NATO Council not to have either NATO or the Russia-NATO Council involved in the crisis settlement," he said. "We are confident that NATO's presence as a factor in the Ukrainian situation would only shake it up."

"We wanted to use this channel to clarify our concern over the development of the situation in Ukraine and in Kiev to all member countries of the Russia-NATO Council," he stressed.

The Russian side, according to Grushko, called on its partners in the Russia-NATO Council to use "their influence to make the opposition dissociate itself from radicals, absolutely honestly and resolutely condemn all manifestations of anti-Semitism, nationalism, Russophobia, prosecution of political opponents and absolutely unacceptable facts of the seizure of administrative buildings and anarchic violence."

"We openly warned about dangerous consequences of the policy of flirting with such forces for Ukraines unity in the first hand," he added.
