Govt: Wider access for community forests

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TEMANGGUNG - Ministry of Forestry increases the development of community forests up to seven percent of total forests managed by government and people. 

Minister of Forester, Zulkifli Hasan explained that number of people who managed the community forests increased since 2009. Previously, majority of forests were managed by companies.

"Now, community controls three percent," Hasan said recently.

Government will open wider access of community plantation forests, village forests, or conversion of production forests. Government will provide assistance of community nursery (KBR) to 15 people who are members of farmer group who has lands. 

"People need to be inovolved and feel a direct benefit if we want to ask them to keep the forests," Hasan added.

Until 2013, number of primary timber industry production capacity reached more than 6,000 cubic meters per year or 375 units. It absorbed more than 282,878 workers with an investment of 54.9 trillion IDR.
