REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PONTIANAK -- The Malaysian government has deported by force, 35 Indonesian illegal migrant workers through Sarawak, East Malaysia, as they were allegedly violating the former's immigration law.
The migrant workers hail from Jakarta, South Sumatra, Central Java, West Java and Pontianak, stated Zulkifli, head of the Entikong immigration office, here on Monday.
According to Zulkifli, the illegal migrant workers were sent home through cross border check-point (PPLB) Entikong.
Meanwhile, chief of the Entikong subdistrict police office, Adjunct Commissioner Iwan Setiawan noted that the police was still investigating whether the workers concerned sought jobs in Malaysia by their own initiative or through an agent.
In addition, one of the migrant workers originating from Bima, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) province, Syahril (35) who had worked in Malaysia for five years remarked that migrant workers in Malaysia face difficulties if they are not equipped with documents.
According to Syahril, he was once caught by Malaysian immigration officers when he worked in Kuching Serawak without the necessary documents.
