Flights between Ambon and Kisar stop

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMBON -- Direct flights between Ambon and the island of Wonreli-Kisar, in the regency of Southwest Maluku has been stopped since January.

The route was regularly served by state owned Merpati Nusantara Airlines (MNA), before it stopped operation over financial difficulty.

The debt ridden airline, which served domestic routes especially flights to isolated areas in eastern regions, stopped operation since last month.

Pulau Wonreli-Kisar was once the municipal town of the southwest Maluku regency before the district moved its seat of administration to Tiakur, on nearby island of Moa .

The district officials, are forced to use boats if they want to travel to the provincial city of Ambon or other places.
