REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SAMARINDA -- State owned port operator, PT Indonesia Port Corporation (IPC) will build Maritime Business Center (SMBC) in Samarinda, East Kalimantan. Deputy Mayor of Samarinda, Ismail Nusyirwan proposed SMBC development plan on former land of container port facilities at Yos Sudarso Street. The land can also be used as parking area to break traffic congestion at the street.

"Although the land is no longer used as stuffing and stripping area for container port facilities since Saturday, it still can be used as passenger's terminal and cargo port until 2018," Nusyirwan said on Saturday.

SMBC development must be in line with the area of Mahakam and Citra Niaga. Nusyirwan expected SMBC could embrace the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to be a SME Center in the region.

IPC will form the SMBC development team involving Samarinda city government. Nusyirwan said that all plans were designed for SMBC construction based on concept. It will be written in an agreement to make it clear with its implementation.
