REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- British foreign secretary William Hague met with Jakarta governor Joko Widodo at City Hall here on Tuesday to discuss good governance, among other things.

"We talked about how to build good governance, on-line tax system, e-budgeting, and cash management system," stated Governor Joko Widodo after the meeting.

He pointed out that the Jakarta provincial government has already practiced good governance but it would indeed take time to bring the bureaucracy into the new system.

"Well that is it. Nothing to do with presidential nomination issues," he remarked.

Jokowi as the governor is popularly called, added that the exposition of budget at the official website Jakarta.go.id was also connected with the implementation of transparent management.

"I have also explained to him that we have a complaint receiving office. We have actually done everything (to assure good governance) but it indeed takes time to make all employees follow the new system," he emphasized.

William Hague meanwhile has expressed appreciation toward the Jakarta administration for its transparency from budgeting and taxation to bureaucracy and others.

"The Jakarta administration has done a good job through transparent management with regard to finance, tax, bureaucracy. We have talked about good governance," he pointed out.

He noted that he would encourage the Jakarta administration to cooperate with the organizations of the British government.

"We have encouraged cooperation with organizations that we have and it will be very good to support the provincial government's programs," he stated, adding "we have heard about the transparent system that the Jakarta provincial government has now used and that is very good."
