REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said many world-class hotel investors had expressed interest in expanding their hotel business in Indonesia.

The minister made the remarks in a written statement made available to Antara here on Sunday.

"Many investors from the hotel sector who already have business in Indonesia have informed us their plans to expand their business in Indonesia." the minister said.

She added that one well-known hotel chain had informed that Indonesia was one of its top ten countries for expanding business.

Mari said her ministry had recorded that Indonesia in Asia was ranked third in the hotel investment and development.

"In terms of rating, Indonesia now is ranked third in Asia as hotel development and investment destination. This is a fact that they are interested in Indonesia as their investment destination in the hotel sector," the minister said.

She said that Indonesia was investors' favorite and had become the main destination of their hotel and restaurant investment.

Mari disclosed that in 2012, domestic and foreign investment in Indonesia reached US$869.8 million. The figure increased by 210 percent compared with that in 2011.

However, she said, the high interest in the development of hotels and restaurant in the country should be accompanied with good, effective and efficient environment management.

Therefore, the minister encouraged investors to apply the green hotel development concept if they would invest capital in this sector in the country.

"Intended as green hotel concept is every effort to optimize the use of resources such as energy, water and materials. Besides, the arrangement of rooms should also meet the convenient and healthy quality standard ," she said.
