REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUDUS -- The military and police in Central Java will help distribute fuel oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to flood-hit Kudus district, chief of the Diponegoro regional military command Maj. Gen. Sunindyo said.

"We will help the distribution of fuel oil and LPG to a number of gas stations in Kudus district," he said while visiting a flood evacuee command post at the Wergu Wetan Sports Stadium here on Thursday evening.

Technically, the Kudus district military command and police will cooperate with their counterparts in Demak and Semarang districts to ensure that fuel oil and LPG would reach the affected areas, he said.

Kudus district head Mustofa, who accompanied Sunindyo during the visit, said local residents were in dire need of fuel oil and LPG.

"I have coordinated with the military and police as well as with gas station owners to safeguard a convey of fuel oil and LPG trucks this evening so that the gas stations will not run short of stocks," he said.

A number of gas stations in Kudus are experiencing shortage of subsidized premium gasoline after floods disrupted supplies to the district.

"We are yet to receive fuel oil supplies from the state oil and gas company, PT Pertamina, in the past two days, due to floods that are affecting Kudus and its surrounding areas," stated Joko Santosa, a gas station operator in Kudus on Thursday.

As of now, the gas station is only selling non-subsidized Pertamax gasoline, he noted.

He pointed out that he had asked for additional fuel supplies to replenish the stocks. But the fuel trucks failed to reach Kudus as they got delayed due to floods.

At least four subdistricts in Kudus are flooded, forcing more than 3,670 people to evacuate their homes.

The floods also cut off the road link between Kudus and Demak district.
