REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Minister of Trade, Gita Wirjawan claimed that Indonesia had joined the top 15 largest economies in the world. He encouraged all stake holders in this country to buy and use local products.
"In the next 20 years, Indonesian economy will join the seven greatest economies in the world. Let's buy local products, so we will able to encourage Indonesia's economy," Wirjawan said recently.
Wirjawan encouraged Indonesian citizens to become smart consumers by choosing local products to support local producers and local industry which in turn would strengthen national competitiveness.
Senior economist Jim O'Neill previously said that Indonesia should be part of MINT (Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria and Turkey) as new frontier of global economy that can replace BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India China and South Africa). O'Neill predicts that the four countries will emerge as new economic powers, based on a number of similarities backgrounds of MINT countries, such as young populations, strategic geographical location, as well as their status as commodities producers, except Turkey.
