REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- An unidentified barge crashed into a pillar of the Barelang bridge in Batam early on Sunday, Batam Management Body (BP Batam) spokesman Dwi Djoko Wiwoho said.
Djoko said after hitting the pillar the barge managed to pass through, but the security authority went after the vessel to stop it.
The security authorities are still investigating the incident, Djoko said, adding there was no casualty in the incident.
He said it is still safe for cars to pass through the bridge.
It was the second time the bridge was hit by barge in the past year. In June 2013, the bridge was damaged after being hit by a barge the APC Aussie I.
At that time the bridge was closed for some time as it needed repairs.
