REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Deputy Chairman of the ruling Democratic Party (PD)'s Supreme Council, Marzuki Alie, expressed his readiness to be nominated as a candidate for the 2014 presidential election.
Alie, who is also the speaker of the house, informed the press here on Wednesday, that he was ready to be named as a presidential candidate. During the press conference, he spoke about his readiness and his party's preparations in the face of the upcoming presidential election.
As a participant in the PD presidential convention, Alie stated that his readiness to be nominated as a presidential candidate is based on his thoughts and desires to develop a respectable Indonesia.
As a cadre of the ruling PD, he believes that his experience, capability, and integrity will help him to continue running the various government programs that have been initiated under the current leadership of President Susilo Bambang Yudoyono.
The House Speaker noted that the people view the leadership of President Yudhoyono as successful and useful.
"I want to develop a respectable Indonesia and continue running the current government's programs whose benefits have been reaped by the people. God willing, I will use my capability, experience, and integrity to carry out the mandate given by the people," he added.
He emphasized that if he was elected as the president, he will appoint those people as ministers who have proven commitment towards developing Indonesia. He specified that his aides should have clean, corruption-free track records.
"I will appoint a police chief like Hoegeng, an attorney general like Abraham Samad, and a Supreme Court chief like Artidjo Alkostar. Leaders of legal institutions should ideally be people with integrity and clean track records," he remarked.
