Christians observe Christmas eve peacefully in Jakarta: Police

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- On the occasion of Christmas Eve, the situation in Jakarta was peaceful and conducive on Tuesday, a police officer stated.

"The situation during Christmas Eve was conducive. There was no disturbance or act of terror," Senior Commissioner Rikwanto, a spokesman of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, noted here on Wednesday.

So far, Christians celebrated Christmas in the capital city peacefully, he added.

The Jakarta Police has intensified its security measures to ensure peaceful Christmas celebrations on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A 5.8 thousand-member joint security team, comprising police and military personnel, is in charge of securing the capital city during Christmas.
