REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Division Head of Public Relation in Indosat, Adrian Pasanto said that there were some factors that triggered Indosat to stop its Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) business in Indonesia. One of them is because its supporting technology no longer adequate in the country.

"More mobile phone makers leave CDMA devices. Vendors also do not want to support the CDMA infrastructures," Prasanto said on Friday.
Those are the main factors which drive a number of operators to swerve. Indosat has a CDMA based service, StarOne. Indosat has submitted its permit license to switch the service, from CDMA system to Extended Global System for Mobile (E-GSM) system. E-GSM network uses GSM technology in frequency spectrum of 900 MHz, while CDMA network using frequency of 850 MHz.
Based on data, StarOne customer continues to decrease, from 700 thousand customers in 2009 to 500 thousand customers in 2010. The figure decreased to 211 thousand customers in second semester of 2012.
