REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Jakarta Higher Court sentenced former Chief of Traffic Police Unit Inspector General Djoko Susilo to 18 years in jail for involvement in a corruption and money laundering case, according to the court's official website.
The sentence is heavier than the previous verdict of 10 years in jail as had been decided by the Anti-Corruption Court. Djoko was charged with corruption in the procurement of Rp196.8 billion worth of simulators for driving licenses during his tenure as chief of the police traffic corps.
Apart from the jail sentence, Djoko is also under obligation to pay Rp32 billion as compensation money to the state. In an event that he fails to do so, the court is authorized to seize all of Djoko's properties and auction them to procure the compensation money.
According to the Jakarta Higher Court's website, Djoko's right to vote and to be voted to a public office is currently being revoked.
