REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NAYPYITAW -- Bellaetrix Manuputty broke its spell on Saturday, winning a gold medal in the women's badminton single event in the Southeast Asian Games 2013 in Naypytaw, Myanmar.

Indonesia's Maria Kristin won the last gold medal in a women's single event at SEA Games in Thailand in 2007.

Bellaetrix won the gold medal on Saturday after she defeated Busanan Ongbumrungpan in a long set 9-21, 21-13, 21-13.

"This is a special gift for my family," she said after the match.

Her gold medal was the second for Indonesia after Rian/Angga won a gold medal after defeating fellow Indonesians Berry Angriawan/Ricky Karanda 21-13, 17-21, 21-11 in the men's double.

Indonesia's badminton manager, Ricky Soebagdja, said he was proud of Bellaetrix's fight to win the gold medal.

"She was incredible. In terms of ranking, she was far below her opponent, but Bella could play very well and won the match," he said.

Also, after Rian/Angga and Bellaetrix, Muhammad Rizal and Debby Susanto later won a gold medal in the mixed double event, after beating Thai pair Jongjit Maneepon/Taerattanachai Sapsiree 21-18, 21-19, 21.
