REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- State owned gas company, PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) will only prioritize its gas supply from Benggala field in Langkat, North Sumatra to 14 companies. General Manager of Strategic Business PGN in North Sumatra, Mugiono said that the 14 companies were part of 53 industries that operated in North Sumatra region.
"Based on government decision, the gas will be prioritized for industries that really have to use gas, such as ceramics," Mugiono said on Thursday.
PGN untill now gets gas allocation about two million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) from all wells of Benggala, which has production capacity of four mmscfd. It adds PGN gas allocation that can be distributed to industrial customers in North Sumatra.
PGN previously has seven mmscfd of gas supply. With additional of Benggala gas then there are nine mmscfd can be distributed to customer this year. Two companies, namely PT Ecogreen and PT Smart in Belawan already start their operations.
Although the gas volume increased, PGN gas supply could not meet demand of industry as well. Public Relation Manager of PT Pertamina EP, Agus Amperianto explained that average gas production of Benggala I in Langkat still reached 2.5 mmscfd of planned production capacity of four mmscfd.
