REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The result of a retail sale survey conducted by Bank Indonesia (BI), the country's central bank, in October 2013 showed an upward trend in domestic consumption.

The trend was reflected in the monthly growth of the real sale index (IPR), which rose to 0.3 percent in October from -7.4 percent in September, executive director of the central bank's communication department, Difi A Johansyah, said here on Tuesday.

"As a result, the annual growth in the real sale index increased to 12.8 percent in October from 12.3 percent in the previous month," he said.

All groups of goods, except spare parts and accessories, saw a sales hike, he said.

The results of the survey predicted that domestic consumption would continue to increase in November, with the real sale index projected to grow 11.3 percent, year-on-year.

Also, retail sales would rebound in April 2014 when the country holds general elections, after falling in January 2014 in the wake of Christmas and New Year celebrations, he noted.

"The survey also indicates how high the price hike pressure will be from the trader side during the next three to six months," he said.

Pressure from a price hike during the next three months would remain high due to provincial minimum wage hikes and high rainfall, which has the potential to disrupt the distribution of goods, he said.
