REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop's planned visit to Indonesia will be a stepping stone to discuss the code of conduct for bilateral relations between both countries, stated Marty Natalegawa, Indonesian Foreign Minister, here on Wednesday.
"It will be a stepping stone to discuss the code of conduct whenever the Australian foreign minister arrives in Indonesia," noted Marty, adding that they will hold a meeting to discuss bilateral relations including sensitive issues between both countries.
However, Marty did not elaborate on the kind of sensitive issues they would discuss.
He expressed hope that the dialog to improve bilateral relations between Indonesia and Australia will be constructive and open.
"The attitude of the Government of Indonesia has been firm in taking several steps, one of which is the cessation of military training cooperation between the two countries," explained Marty.
According to him, President Yudhoyono will ask the foreign minister or a special envoy to discuss sensitive issues.
This will then be followed by discussions on in-depth protocols and a code of ethics in the presence of the president, who will examine the adequacy and relevance of these in light of the wiretapping issue.
