REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian citizens need to be aware of corruption that involved banking sector ahead of general election in 2014. Deputy Chairman of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Bambang Widjojanto explained that it should be no more works for making banking sector as sources of illegal political funding before election.

"We are afraid that it is going to happen. The reason, majority of corruption cases in last three elections involved banking sector," Widjojanto said recently.

Before 1999 election, there was case of Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) involving several officials. In 2004 election, corruption cases involved national banks. In 2009 election, there was case of bail out of Bank Century.

Widjojanto saw that Indonesian politics still needed a high costs. Political parties require a lot of money to run political machine. When cadre's contribution was not sufficient, political corruption has become a temptation for political parties.
