Govt to investigate Freeport accident

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA -- Government through Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in coordination with local authorities would conduct an investigation to find the cause of incident of quarry materials fall at underground mines of PT Freeport Indonesia. Vice President and Corporate Communication in Freeport Indonesia, Daisy Primayanti said that an accident was occurred in area of DOZ underground mine in Tembagapura district, Mimika regency, Papua.

"A boulder rolled from ore's chute and hit a light vehicle," Primayanti said on Tuesday.

There are two people in the vehicle and one of them died, while one more is now under treatment in Tembagapura hospital. Primayanti said that Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resourcs has been notified related this incident. Freeport management and workers expressed the deepest condolences to families of victims.

Fikrizal Utama (37 years) was found dead on Sunday around 04:00 AM in area of 74 miles in Tembagapura district. He was driving a LWB pickup car when he was at loading point 1 E north underground DOZ. He was hit by quarry materials.
