Ministry of Public Works to accelerate national connectivity in 2013

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Directorate General of Highway in Ministry of Public Works targeted to maintain the quality of road condition up to 92.5 percent this year. It aims to accelerate national connectivity programs.

To achieve this target, Director General of Highway, Djoko Moerjanto carried out several programs, consisted of road preservation along 33,216 kilometers (km), long bridge preservation along 326,185 meters (m), reconstruction and widening of road capacity along 4,136 km.

"We also conducted construction of new roads along 364 KM, new bridges (10,490 m), new flyovers and underpasses (4,887 m)," Moerjanto said recently.

During period of 2011-2013, national roads grew significantly along 12,298 km. Morjanto added that there was an increase in stability of national roads, from 80.60 percent in 2005 to 92.50 percent in the end of the year. To handle 38,570 km of national roads, government also builds national strategic roads along 11,577.807 km in strategic areas, border regions and regional outer.

"Tol roads have been built and operated along 784 km," Moerjanto said.

One of the achievements was development of Kelok Sambilan bridge, consisted of six bridges with length of 943 m and road along 2,089 km. It becomes a phenomenon in construction business in Indonesia.
