REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH -- One of the coin discovered in Aceh, called as dirham, di Gampong Pande, Banda Aceh, on 11 November 2013, indicated a diplomatic slogan from Ottoman's era.
Taqiyuddin Muhammad, an expert in the history of Islam, said that he found the slogan on a coin image published by media.
"After doing research, I found the writing is, Dharib an-nadhr shahib al-'izzi an-nashr fi al-barri wal al-bahri, means the creator of this gold coin, [is] the owner of power and victory in land and sea," he said to Mishkah.com, on Thursday evening (14/11).
Taqiyuddin said, the writing was a diplomatic slogan of Ottoman dynasty, present day Turkey, since the era of Sultan Salim I (died in 1520 AD). The sultan has a title called 'shah' in the coin. So has his son, Sultan Sulaiman Al-Qanuni (1566AD).
"The slogan was to show their financial power and the mighty of their state to win several wars in land and sea and in the end indicated the capacity of Ottoman military might," he added.
In addition, the slogan of 'uzza nashruh in the coin of Ottoman Dynasty as reported by Miskah.com earlier, was to show the victories of Sultan Salim I to conquere the Shia Safavid dynasty in Persia (Iran) and the Mamluk dynasty in Egypt.
"So, the Sultan has conquered a fast area under his rule," he said.
The discovery of Ottoman coin is something rare in Aceh, so he advised, the coins should be preserved as a proof of an international relation between two Muslim states in their era.
"But unfortunately, according to the information, the dinar has been sold with cheap price for the sake of invaluable historical heritage," he said.
