REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PRAMBANAN - Chairman of Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI), Jusuf Kalla asked Muslims to make mosque as a place to solve many community problems. All problems that concern the relationship between God and people, also fellow human beings can be solved in mosque.

"Function of mosque is not just a place of worship, but also human relations, such as social, economic and health," Kalla said recently.

Mosque management must be improved for the sake of people prosperity. So, the presence of mosque as community center can make mosque as a place of spiritual recreation. Mosque can also be as campus or school for community. Former vice president said that mosque should be developed to build human civilization, to build social and economic activities, to build environment and health, also as public education.

"This is what we call community economic development. Mosque also creates live in harmony, prosperous, safer, orderly, clean, healthy, harmonious and full of tolerant," Kalla said.

There are 250 thousand mosques and 550 thousand mushollas (place to perform shalat or prayers in Islam) in Indonesia. This figure is quite fantastic in the world. Mosque is only managed by community in Indonesia and Pakistan. In other Muslim countries, mosque is managed by government.
