REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Hanura Party will closely follow the verification of the 10.4 million "problematic" voters who do not have citizenship identity numbers (NIKs).

"Hanura will watch closely. We are ready to even help in the verification of the eligible voters list (DPT)," Deputy Secretary General of Hanura Kristiawanto said here on Friday.

The party wanted to make sure the 2014 general election has fewer problems than seen in the last election, he noted.

"We have studied and compared the DPT data with the KPU data," he explained.

Kristiawanto urged the Commission to take strategic steps to solve the problem before the elections, in line with regulations.

The strategic steps are necessary since the public remains suspicious of the 10.4 voters, he said.

Kristiawanto added that the KPU had worked transparently on the list, but it needs to solve the problem.

The KPU recently announced that the number of eligible voters in the DPT was 186,612,255 -- 93,439,610 men and 93,172,645 women. Plus, there are 2,010,280 voters in 130 countries, who will vote at 873 voting locations (TPS).

Chairman Husni Kamil Manik said the KPU considered all input before declaring the DPT.

He hoped to quickly put together the data regarding the 10.4 million problematic voters. He said the number was real, and the political rights of these voters must be assured.

Commissioner Sigit Pamungkas said the KPU would coordinate with the ministry of home affairs to solve the problem of the voters without NIKs.

Indonesia plans to hold national, provincial and district legislative elections in April 2014, which will be followed by the presidential election on July 9, 2014.
