REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State owned Gas Company, PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) is ready to boost infrastructure development of natural gas in Indonesia. Director of Investment Planning and Risk Management in PGN, Wahid Sutopo said that PGN had experiences and ability to encourage the use of natural gas in Indonesia.
"PGN has built six thousand kilometers of natural gas pipelines in various regions in Indonesia," Sutopo said recently.
PGN has also built infrastructures, such as regatification floating storage unit (FSRU) and refueling mobile unit (MRU) to support conversion of fuel to natural gas for industrial and transportation sectors. Sutopo explained that by distribution of 1,600 mmscfd of natural gas or equivalent to 250 thousand barrels oil per day, PGN contributed to gross domestic product (GDP) worth 200 trillion to 300 trillion IDR per year.
Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Susilo Siswoutomo said that government would continue to encourage conversion of fuel to other renewable energy. It can save up to 100 thousand barrels oil per day. Costs of oil import in Indonesia now reach 900 billion USD per day. Government will also implement open access gas pipeline police carefully.
