REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State owned bank company, PT Bank Mandiri and Agence Francaise de Development (AFD) will support development of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects in Indonesia. Vice President of Bank Mandiri, Riswinandi said that AFD provided banking facilities worth 100 million USD to Bank Mandiri.
"Bilateral loan facility will have a positive impact on international banking industry, particularly in improving reputation of bank as financial institution that is environmentally friendly and can improve funding structure," Riswinandi said recently.
Riswinandi said that Bank Mandiri had used the first loan of 97 million USD to finance projects of hydropower, biogas and combined cycle power plant. It also helps Bank Mandiri to strengthen long term financing structure and increases financing for environmentally friendly projects that can support increased investment in Indonesia.
AFD is a French financial institution that has good reputation in the world and has high awareness of energy conservation. AFD Country Director, Vincent Rousset said that the bank had previously been involved in environmental project financing, such as post-tsunami reconstruction in Aceh and Indonesian marine conservation.
