Indonesian Islamic scholarly tradition is unique and wonderful. It has Sanad-based teaching systems; the linkage of science, placing a particular figure as the vortex movement of science. This pattern is commonly used in many schools (pesantren).

Scholars or preachers play a major role in the distribution process of science. It's a common sight in Islamic schools that still adheres to a traditionalist Salaf systems, one of which Manarul Huda Islamic boarding school, Sukasirna, Sukarame, Tasikmalaya regency, West Java.

Globalization does not necessarily undermine the identity, as well as teaching and learning system at the school that teaches the yellow book (kitab kuning).

Kiai read the book by 'sorogan' system. This system of teaching techniques, reading the book by student themselves individually or a student 'nyorog' (each facing one teacher) to read or taught by his teacher some parts of the book that he learned, then the student repeatedly follow the teacher's reading many times.

Thus, students can easily meet with cleric (Kiyai). The most respected figures in the schools who in charge of paying attention to sustainability of education at his school.

If there is a mistake in reading, it can be immediately corrected. Kiai can directly observe whether students have mastered the subject.

Secretary of Manarul Huda Islamic School Foundation, KH Cecep Ilman Fahmi said the schools under its management should maintain the tradition of sorogan. Despite formal education, Koran learning (ngaji) should not be ignored by students.

"So, first they learn Koran first," he said. Students began recitation from the morning. Government high schools attendance, both tsanawiyah (Mts) and aliyah (MA) level, started during the day.

According to Cecep, the soul of the school is the tradition of Koran teaching. Therefore, it should be prioritized. Students read the yellow book and absorb sciences in it.

Yellow books that taught in the school related to the Arabic grammatical subject, namely nahwu and sharaf. There also are subjects like theology or tauhid. Other books are about jurisprudence and morals.

Cecep states, his school has graduation standards that are different from other educational institutions. Students must pass subject like tauhid (monotheistic teaching materials), nahwu, and sharaf.

"If they do not pass then they have to repeat the class," he said.

He argues, Manarul Huda built since 1973. At first this pesantren adopts a purely classical salaf teaching by sorogan system.

From year to year, numbers of students at the school are rising. At first, dozens, then increased up to 150 people. In 1997 the school then builds a foundation. So, there is MTs and MA.

The founder of the pesantren is KH Endin Saepudin. He is known as one of the scholars Tasikmalaya.

Kyai Endin established the school to preserve the tradition of Islamic boarding schools in the region. Society must be defended from ideologies that undermine Islam.

"Abah (as he usually called) wanted the next generation of Muslims will remain in good behavior (akhlakul karimah)," Cecep said. He stated that the teaching of morality is important so that Muslim generation could guide the community and be an example.

Cecep stated, there was thousands of graduates have passed the schools. Some of them become public figures that holds steadfast in the faith of Islam and remain tolerant to others.

He said he prayed that the alumni of pesantren could always manage to get the blessing, guidance and forgiveness from Allah SWT, every time and day.
