REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Head of Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Mahendra Siregar said that there would be five new sectors opened to foreign investors in the revised regulation of negative investment list (DNI), which is being formulated by government.

"It is still being formulated, but at least there are five new sectors opened to foreign investor which was previously opened only for domestic investors," Siregar said recently.

The five new sectors are related to transportation services of airport and seaport, due diligence services of motor vehicles and management of ecotourism.

Siregar said that addition of foreign ownership in infrastructure projects, such as airports and other public facilities would be use Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme. For example, government wanted to push foreign role in ecotourism projects, from 49 percent to 70 percent. There are also 10 business sectors which are also given an ease process, such as pharmaceutical industry, financial services and telecom venture capital.

However, Siregar ensured that there were some rules that would not be changed, related to management of horticultural sector and possession of alcoholic beverages management that remained closed to foreign investors. He expects that DNI revision can be implemented to ease bureaucratic process, so the investment target in 2014 worth 450 trillion IDR can be achieved.
