Some 250 district heads and mayors from Asian and Pacific countries are expected to participate in the meeting in Wakatobi, which will discuss environmental issues, urbanization and regional autonomy.
The Jakarta-based organization will organize a conference in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in November this year.
UCLG ASPAC is the regional section of the UCLG organization, considered a key knowledge management hub on local government issues in the region.
The UCLG is a worldwide association of local government organizations that dates back to 1913. It is the only local government organization recognised by the United Nations and nominates 10 out of 20 members of the UNACLA, the first advisory body of local authorities affiliated with the United Nations.
The Asia-Pacific region is the largest of the eight sections in the UCLG with connections to more than seven thousand local governments. It represents well over 3.76 billion people---more than half of the world's population---and incorporates economically fast developing countries such as China, India, and Indonesia.
