REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LONDON -- Vice President Boediono saw Indonesia is encountered by number of challenges, especially in economic sectors, even though, he believed some improvements have been achieved. Government has had a variety of institutions necessary for producing macroeconomic policy.

However, the biggest problem currently lies precisely on the availability of supporting infrastructure in economic growth.

"There are projects that are on its construction process. Some will take place in the foreseeable future. Though, it is still not able to fully pursue high demand [of infrastructures development]. Various attempts, to improve the performance and capacity of state-owned enterprises and the private sector, were taking place," he said as quoted from www.wapresri.go.id.

Another challenge, he said, improving the business climate and quality of service of public facilities which both lead to bureaucratic reform program.

Most targets are medium-term plan, although, he said, some breakthroughs can be enjoyed from now.

To ensure inclusive growth, Indonesia also implemented various poverty alleviation programs. Next year, national health insurance system will be launched.

In the medium term, a shortage of skilled and quality manpower will be a serious challenge to economic growth. To overcome this, the government has also sought to reform some fundamental changes to the education system.

"Among others, increasing salaries of teachers and implementing the certification program as well as a new curriculum, providing subsidies for public schools and increasing scholarships recipients," he said.

The Vice President acknowledged, transformation from a centralized system to the decentralized was hastily implemented. Many lessons have been learned, some could be recorded as a success, the other recorded as challenges that must be fixed in the future.

"We are also aware that regional governments have different capacities. Therefore we continue to observe and supervise their progress," he said.
