REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BUKITTINGGI -- The thoughts of Indonesian founding fathers Soekarno and Muhammad Hatta remain relevant today during the country's ongoing national development, according to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
"We are grateful that the thoughts of our beloved founding fathers remain relevant to the importance of national politics, democracy and the economy and reflect on the sovereignty of the people," President Yudhoyono said when visiting Bung Hatta library here on Tuesday.
While at the library, President Yudhoyono called on his countrymen to improve their reading habits amid the strong influx of information and the use of social media in communications.
"In this digital information era, books and libraries remain important and, therefore, the people should improve their reading habits," the president noted.
He said that by reading many books, particularly the books by the nation's founding fathers, the people would be able to understand the mind and thoughts of these leaders.
