REPUBLIKA.CO.ID , JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture Suswono optimistic that there will be no rice imports for 2013 because the current year's crop land area reached 13.5 million hectares.
"Currently, Bulog rice stocks reached 2 million tons, so its assessed sufficient to meet domestic demand," he said in Jakarta, Sunday (28/10).
Moreover, the decision for not importing rice this year was also obtained from President Director of state-owned logistic company, Bulog.
"Hopefully Bulog will not have to import rice. Rice import aimed to reduce deficiency of Bulog stock. At the end of the year, rice stock should be at least 1.5 to 2 million tons. If the number decreased, enhancements should be made through imports . But most likely, there will be no import this year," he said.
