REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President of Justice and Welfare (PKS) party Anis Matta said Indonesia's 2014 election is a gateway for the third wave of national transformation in Indonesia, not just a transition of power.
"The election could be assumed as a gateway for third wave of change in Indonesia, at least as a third stage in the history of the Indonesian people," he said in a press release received in Jakarta, Friday (25/10).
The statement also presented in a national dialogue and seminar titled 'Seeking Indonesian Leaders, from Campus' held at the Sukadji Ranuwihardjo Auditorium, Univerity of Gajah Mada (UGM), in Yogyakarta.
Matta explained the fundamental reason behind the statement related to the nature of politics that should be an 'industry' of thought and not power. He emphasized, by making political arena as an exchange of ideas, then, all national components would know exactly the direction of Indonesia's destiny.
He added, the first wave of the Indonesia's transformation process began in the 18th to 20th century. "I call this stage as a wave to become Indonesia," he added.
At that time, said Matta, a long suffering under local kingdoms lead the people moving forward in solidarity to build a great nation.
He said the second wave shaped when Indonesia became a real nation on the momentum of the Youth Pledge on October 28, 1928 and the event of proclamation that led the nation to create a state officially.
"On the other hand, reformation era was born on the dark side of the previous order. However, the nation is able to capture the spirit of the times by using positive values of the order, bringing the nation into the Order of the Reformation," he said.
Ultimately, he said, Indonesia's long journey brought nation into the third wave of change. He explained, the demand for changes occur in the fact that there are newly born generations who have right to determines future direction of their nation.
"Now we are dealing with the 'new majority' of the emergence of 45-year age group which controls 60 percent of the population," Matta said.
The seminar was also attended by several speakers: Hanura chairman Wiranto , Chairman of association of local government of Indonesia (APKASI ), Isran Noor , Executive Director Pol Tracking Institute Hanta Yudha , and former Yogyakarta Mayor Herry Zudianto .
