Indonesia invites ASEAN +3 to cooperate on food sector

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA LUMPUR - Indonesia proposed ASEAN +3 (Japan, Korea, China) to enhance cooperation as strategic partners in food and agriculture issues. Minister of Agriculture, Suswono said it in a meeting of 13 ministers of agriculture and forestry in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last week.

Suswono said Indonesia and ASEAN +3 countries share the common responsibility to ensure food security and agriculture in region. Indonesia appreciates cooperation between the three countries with their partners.

"I would like to invite all stakeholders to work together to guarantee food security for the sake not only our generation, but also our children and grandchildren," Suswono said recently.

Agriculture sector records some advances and needs concrete steps in this cooperation. Indonesia believes the three still have some rooms for further cooperation in many fields, especially to face ASEAN Community 2015. There are opportunities to tackle issues such as climate change and bio energy development, updating technology development transfer and also research.
