East Belitung to transform former tin mining into plantation area

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Regent of East Belitung, Basuri Tjahaja Purnama said he had master plan to transform former tin mining land into plantation area. East Belitung is the largest tin producer in Indonesia which has many former tin mining lands.

"Researchers of Gadjah Mada University has assesed the land and in conclusion we can plant dragon fruit on the land," Purnama said this weekend.

 

The land can be planted with Casuarina tress endemic of Belitung. Casuarina trees can produce organic fertilizer urea that can bring in revenue of 30 million IDR per hectare. i
