REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA - PT Freeport Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding with PT Indosmelt and PT Indovasi Mineral Indonesia to build a smelter facility for copper concentrate.

"Freeport Indonesia wants to abide to government policy for downstream processing of mineral resources based industries in Indonesia and we need to show the support,l" President Director of Freeport Indonesia, Rozik B Soetjipto said on Wednesday.

Soetjipto said Freeport Indonesia had build the first copper smelter located in Gresik, East Java namely PT Smelting. The smelter is a joint venture between Freeport Indonesia and Mitsubishi and had supplied 40 percent of copper ore which was processed into copper concrate.
