REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Ministry of Agriculture plans to implement standard of Sustainability of Indonesian Palm Oil (ISPO) for smallholder palm oil plantation companies or Plasma farmers. Director of Annual Plant at Ministry of Agriculture, Herdradjat Natawidjaya said this idea would be conducted after government succesfully managed core plantation in Indonesia.

"Adoption of ISPO to Plasma farmers are currently only on limited trial. The certificate will be a prerequisite for Raoundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) or international certificate," Natawidjaya said on Wednesday.

ISPO trials will be conducted in Riau, Jambi, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan and Bengkulu. The trial is expected to apply ISPO effectively to public in 2015.

Four plantation companies in Indonesia have applied this system since three years ago. The system is also applied to plasma farmers but not as strict as to big corporations. Government will discuss the system implementation with stakeholders in a seminar in September 2013 before Ministry of Agriculture issue a regulation.
