Electricity consumption to drop 35 percent

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State owned electricity firm, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) predicts power consumption in Java and Bali will drop 35 percent from normal use. Electricity consumption is expected to return to normal a week after Eid al Fitr.

"Use electricity in Java and Bali will decline during Eid day. It is seen from custom in previous years," Operation Director of Java and Bali in PLN, Ngurah Adnyana said on Wednesday.

Adnyana said electricity consumption in Java and Bali about 22 thousand mega watt (MW) per day. Power consumption was normally about 6,000 MW, when Eid will fall to 4,000 MW.

Net profit of PLN increased, from 111.4 trillion IDR to 116.7 trillion IDR in first half of 2013. This increase was primaliry from foreign exchange, increase in sale of volume of electrical power and gradual increase in rates.
