Ship of immigrants from Srilanka and Iran sunken in Cianjur waters

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIANJUR - A ship carrying hundreds of illegal immigrants was sunken in Cianjur waters, West Java on Wednesday morning at 03.00 AM. Joint officers continued to comb the South Sea beach since many of them are predicted the immigrants were brought away by waves.

"The immigrants come from Sri Lanka and Iran. Data of immigrants who are rescued is still confusing," A resident of Cianjur, Rahmat said on Wednesday.

The accident occured when ship departed from Rancabuaya, Garut. It brought immigrants wanting to Christmas Island in Australia through Cianjur waters. The ship was suspected of carrying passengers exceeded standard up to 150 people.

A passenger who survived, Ali Umar (43 years) from Sri Lanka said that ship carried up to 250 passengers. He never thought would lose his wife shortly after successful climbed to the top of ship.

The ship was hit by a big wave, leaked and dragged to Cianjur water. Drowning victims were spreaded to coastal and beach of Sukapura. However, there were 37 immigrants rescued in Sukapura beach.

Victims were found dead has reached four people and most of them are boys. Survivors are now stayed at House of Jayanti in Sukapura beach.
