REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Government will impose penalty for exporters and importers who pile up their containers in Tanjung Priok Port for long time. Currently, about four thousand containers are piling up in Priok, North Jakarta, and it makes the dwelling time more time consuming.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Hatta Rajasa said government would conduct a progressive tax for exporters and importers who could not load and unload their goods in two days and they would be subject to sanctions.

"The absence of sanction makes exporters and importers casually pile up their containers at the port. Rate of accumulation of goods in Priok has reached 100 percent," Rajasa said on Sunday.

Beside penalty, government also seeks short term solution to overcome the pilling up by providing special area in harbour, outside restricted zone. Container which piles up at the port now will be moved temporary to the area.

Government works with 14 stakeholders including PT Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), National Importer Association (Ginsi), as well as Indonesian Logistics and Forwarders Association (ALFI) to realize the plan.
