REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SANGATTA - Some analysis hinted that Malaysians supplied narcotics and drugs at the border of Sangatta, East Kutai, East Kalimantan. The illegal drugs were  then distributed to other areas, such as Bontang, Samarinda and Balikpapan.

"The allegations were derived from analysis after seeing a number of narcotics dealers arrested at the border region by police. Generally, they came from Malaysia," Chairman of Regional Narcotics Agency (BNN) in East Kutai, Ardiansyah Sulaiman on Monday.

Some areas become transit points of drug dealers before they continue their journey to Samarinda and Balikpapan, such as Muara Wahau, Miau Baru, Bengalon, Sangatta, Teluk Pandan and then they drop back to Bontang. Muara Wahau is considered as the most strategic center.

According to Sulaiman, the entry of narcotics at coastal and center areas is very porous as many night entertainment centers and localization in those region. Beside East Kalimantan, other areas that receives narcotics supplies from Malaysia is Medan, North Sumatra.

Chairman of the Antidrugs Movement (Granat) in North Sumatra, Hamdani Harahap said Medan is often used as a drug syndicate from Malaysia as the safest place to store illegal goods, then circulated to Java and Bali. Usually, drugs such as methamphetamine are smuggled through the Port of Nibung Bay, Tanjung Balai using a ferry.
