Govt to import 45 thousand cattles from Australia and NZ

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Ministry of Trade will import 45 thousand cattles to Indonesia until July 2013. Minister of Trade, Gita Wirjawan said the import was needed to stabilize meat price in the market.

"We will bring in 15 thousand cattles in June and 30 thousand cattles in July from Australia and New Zealand," Wirjawan said on Friday.

Currently beef price is still soaring, hence the import is expected to accelerate to stabilize beef price. Wirjawan said Logistic Bureau (Bulog) still awaiting permit letter from Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs. The import is expected to stabilize the meat price around 70 thousand IDR per kilogram.
