Indonesia-S Korea to produce jet fighter generation 4.5

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia and South Korea will boost cooperation in defense industry to accelerate modernization of main tools of weapon system and economic growth in Indonesia. 

"Government of Indonesia and South Korea agreed to manufacture jet fighter of generation 4.5, with code K-FX/IF-X. This jet has more high tech than the Sukhoi and F16," Minister of Defence Purnomo Yusgiantoro who also serves as Chairman of the Defence Industry Policy Committee (KKIP) said in Jakarta on Thursday.

The budget of jet fighter project will be 20 percent from Indonesia and 80 percent from South Korea. The design technology will be completed in next two years. For this purpose, Indonesia has built Design Center Indonesia (DCI) in Bandung, West Java. Government has also sent 52 Indonesian experts abroad to learn the defense industrial design technology. 

Earlier, secretary of KKIP, Sjafrie Samsoeddin added government had organized a road show to a number of ASEAN countries to offer products of Indonesian jet CN-295 (modified CN-235). Five of six countries visited by the team expressed interest to buy military aircraft made in Indonesia. Those are Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, and Malaysia.
