REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA - Inspector of Mines of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has completed its investigation on underground mining training facility of PT Freeport Indonesia at Big Gossan, Papua. Vice President Corporate Communication of Freeport Indonesia, Daisy Primayanti said the team of investigation had provided some recommendations which were followed up by company.

"The results of internal inspection team shows major facilities in underground mining is generally considered safe for use. Nevertheless, there are also some facilities that need to be closed temporarily for further investigation as well as to make improvements according to Occupational Safety and Health," Primayanti said in a press release on Thursday.

Investigation of Freeport started since a month ago, consisted of visual inspection and examination by tools, such as ground penetration radar and seismic and survey prism. Investigations carried out on permanent facilities, production areas, service areas and tunnels active development at DMLZ and Grasberg Block Cave (GBC).

The main priority of inspection also carried out on permanent facilities which is located in underground mining and any area that has a high number of employees, such as dining rooms, praying room, offices, workshops, warehouses and main entrance. Primayanti said the inspection was to ensure all facilities in undergroud mines in stable condition, had a good buffer in order to provide comfort for employees to perform work activities safely.
