REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State-owned logistics agency Bulog calculates that government needs 210 billion IDR to 350 billion IDR to import meat which is needed to stabilize domestic price. President Director of Bulog, Sutarto Alimoeso said stable meant when the market price was at 60 thousand IDR per kilogram meat..

"However, national banks are still ready to cooperate," Alimoeso said on Friday, referring to the fund resource for the import.

Bulog still calculates the additional fund to import frozen beef about 3,000 tones to 5,000 tones this year. The quota will meet the needs ahead the fasting month of Ramadhan and Eid Fitr, while the supply is expected to control the meat price in the country.

Bulog is the only agency tasked to import meat in order to stabilize price in the country.  Alimoeso said that in the long term Bulog would develop feeder cattle in the country. Bulog has talked to cattle breeders from Australia and New Zealand about the possibility of importing feeder cattle.
