REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State-owned flag carrier PT Garuda Indonesia prepared three new units of Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen with capacity of 96 seats to operate at Kuala Namu Airport in Medan, North Sumatra. The aircraft has 12 seats in executive class and 84 seats in economy class.
"The provision of aircrafts was in line with development of Medan as Garuda's hub and Kuala Namu as the hub of western Indonesia," said General Manager of Garuda Indonesia to Medan, Syamsuddin on Thursday. In the future, the passengers from other airports such as Padang (West Sumatra) and Palembang (South Sumatra) could use Garuda aircraft directly from Medan to international destinations, such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Penang which would operate soon.
Syamsuddin explained the Bombardier aircrafts were a part of 24 Garuda aircrafts that would enter this year. It consisted of Boeing 777-300 ER, Airbus A330, Boeing 737-800NG and Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen. Kuala Namu airport project was part of the Masterplan for Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia's Economic Development (MP3EI).
