Attorney General's Office detains Indonesian Chevron's GM

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) finally detained General Manager of PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia, Bakhtiar Abdul Fatah who was suspected to be involved in corruption case in restoration of soil bioremediation project in Riau. He was jailed in Cipinang, East Jakarta.

"He would be detained until next 20 days," Head of Information Center at AGO Ari Muladi said on Saturday.

Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, Andhi Nirwanto said AGO have twice asked Fatah to meet the investigator, but he disobeyed. The officers finally picked up him at his home at Marga Satwa Street, Cilandak, South Jakarta. 

Chevron Pacific Indonesia was formerly known as Caltex Pacific Indonesia. The company was founded in 1963 and its headquarters are based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Chevron Pacific Indonesia operates as a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, a big company in the United States.

Chevron worked on bioremediation project to restore damaged soil during oil exploration in Duri Regency, Riau. Chevron appointed PT Green Planet Indonesia and PT Sumigita Jaya as its contractors. 

AGO assessed both contractors were incompetent. AGO believed that remediation project was fictional and it caused the nation losed 200 billion IDR.
