REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - State-owned Merpati Nusantara Airlines (Merpati) adds eight locations for pioneer flights in various regions in Indonesia to enhance connectivity in the country.
Vice President and Corporate Secretary of Merpati, Herry Saptanto said that the pioneer flight would serve three regions of Papua and two regions in Maluku namely Langgur and Bandanaira. "We also add two regions in Sulawesi, at Toli-toli and Mamuju," he said on Friday.
The pioneer flights in Papua started on April 11, while Sulawesi and East Nusa Tenggara began on April 20, 2013. Saptanto added that many islands in Indonsia needed aviation pioneer to help local residents to improve their access to other areas.
Now, Merpati has 32 aircrafts for pioneer flights, including DHC and cassa. Merpati has around 100 routes to visit 40 cities.
